About the Scientific-Technological Center of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (STCOPC) of NAS RA

The Scientific-Technological Center of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (STCOPC) of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) was established on October 12, 2006, by decree No. 1530-N of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. The center comprises the following research institutes:

  • A. Mnjoyan Institute of Fine Organic Chemistry (founded in 1955)
  • Institute of Organic Chemistry (founded in 1957)
  • Center for Molecular Structure Studies (founded in 1994)

Personnel

The center employs 284 specialists, including:

  • 189 researchers
  • 2 corresponding members of the NAS RA
  • 19 Doctors of Sciences
  • 83 Candidates of Sciences

Scientific Output (Last Three Years)

  • 384 scientific articles and conference abstracts (national and international)
  • 3 patents granted by the Republic of Armenia
  • 16 defended dissertations

International Conferences

The center, in collaboration with the Armenian Chemical Society, has organized international scientific conferences:

  • “New Materials and Processes” (2010)
  • “Advances in Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry” (2012)
  • “Achievements and Challenges” (2014)

Additionally, in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, the center has co-organized:

  • The 8th International Conference on Low-Temperature Chemistry (2010)
  • The 4th International Conference for Young Scientists: “Chemistry Today” (2014)

In 2012, the center published the scientific compendium titled “Selected Advances in Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry.”

Accredited Specialized Scientific Council

The center operates a Specialized Scientific Council (No. 010), approved by the Supreme Certifying Commission of Armenia (BOKh RA), for awarding doctoral and candidate degrees in the following fields:

  • B.00.03 – Organic Chemistry
  • B.00.10 – Bioorganic Chemistry
  • B.00.06 – High-Molecular Compounds

Main Research Directions

  • Development and investigation of new pharmaceuticals
  • Study of structure-activity relationships in biologically active compounds
  • Preclinical studies of potential drug candidates

Scientific Achievements

Among the 14 pharmaceuticals developed at the center, three have been successfully introduced into medical practice and are produced at the center’s manufacturing facilities:

  • Ditilin
  • Gangleron
  • Thiodin

These pharmaceuticals are used both in Armenia and internationally, including in Ukraine, Belarus, and Georgia.
